Keeping essential systems running. Building what comes next.

We acquire and grow exceptional businesses that maintain the mechanical systems essential to buildings, facilities and everyday operations.

From heating, ventilation and cooling to refrigeration, pumps, building controls and specialist mechanical maintenance, we back the people and expertise behind services that customers depend on.

Built on reliability. Trusted to keep things running.

Critical mechanical systems are essential to the buildings, facilities and operations that businesses rely on every day.

Behind these systems are specialist service companies built on technical expertise, experienced engineers, dependable maintenance programmes and long-standing customer relationships.

At Phixr, we’re looking to acquire established mechanical services businesses with strong reputations, skilled teams and lasting customer relationships. Whether your business specialises in one type of mechanical system or provides a broader range of complementary services, what matters most is the expertise, reputation and quality of what you’ve built.

Our areas of interest

Different disciplines. Shared importance.

Some businesses have developed deep expertise in one particular area, while others provide several complementary maintenance and engineering services.

Both are equally important to us. What matters is the technical capability, reputation and quality of the business you’ve built.

01

Commercial HVAC Services

Planned maintenance, servicing, repairs and technical support for commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, including air handling units, chillers, heat pumps and associated plant.

02

Refrigeration & Cooling Systems

Commercial and industrial refrigeration maintenance, cooling system servicing, cold storage equipment, specialist temperature-control systems, inspections and associated repairs.

03

Pumps & Fluid Handling Systems

Inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of commercial and industrial pumps, booster sets, pressurisation units, circulation systems and associated mechanical equipment.

04

Building Management & Control Systems

Building management systems (BMS), HVAC controls, building automation, system optimisation, controls maintenance and associated technical support.

05

Lifts, Escalators & Access Equipment

Lift and escalator servicing, planned maintenance, repairs, modernisation, technical inspections and specialist support for vertical transportation and powered access systems.

06

Specialist Mechanical Maintenance

Planned and reactive maintenance of commercial and industrial mechanical plant, including boilers, heat exchangers, ventilation equipment, mechanical assemblies and associated infrastructure.

You don’t need to provide every service listed here.

We’re equally interested in respected specialists and businesses offering several complementary services. What matters is the expertise, customer trust and quality of the operation you’ve built.

What we look for

What catches our attention.

Size guideline

We typically focus on established businesses with approximately £2m or more in annual revenue, although we also consider smaller specialist operators with particularly attractive characteristics. This is a guideline, not a minimum requirement.

We know there’s more to a great mechanical services business than its turnover.

Maintenance vs installation.

A commercial HVAC business built on recurring maintenance contracts operates differently from one focused on new system installations or major replacement projects. We understand the value of both models.

Specialist vs multi-service.

Whether you specialise in refrigeration, lift maintenance or provide a broader range of mechanical engineering services, we’re interested in the expertise and reputation you’ve built.

Revenue vs business quality.

Customer retention, engineer qualifications, manufacturer relationships, installed equipment knowledge and strong operational foundations all influence how we assess a potential acquisition.

We take the time to understand what makes your business different.

Sector questions

Frequently asked questions.

Questions about valuation, deal structures or what happens after a sale? See how Phixr works with business owners, or learn more about Phixr.

Do we need to offer multiple mechanical services?

No. We’re interested in both highly specialised businesses and those providing several complementary services. A respected refrigeration maintenance specialist, commercial HVAC company or lift servicing business can be just as interesting as a broader mechanical services provider. The quality of the business matters more than the breadth of its offering.

Are you interested in businesses with installation and project revenue?

Yes. While recurring servicing, planned maintenance and technical support revenue is particularly attractive, we recognise that installations, equipment replacements, modernisation and specialist projects can be important parts of a successful mechanical services business. We assess the overall quality and sustainability of revenue rather than applying one model to every company.

Do you only acquire businesses above £2m revenue?

No. This is a general guideline rather than a strict threshold. We also consider smaller specialist operators with strong customer relationships, technical capabilities, recurring service revenue or attractive growth opportunities.

Which qualifications and accreditations do you look for?

Relevant qualifications, certifications and accreditations are important, but requirements vary considerably across mechanical services. Depending on the business, these may include Gas Safe registration for applicable gas work, F-Gas certification for relevant refrigeration and air conditioning activities, recognised manufacturer training and other discipline-specific competence requirements. We assess the qualifications, regulatory obligations and recognised standards appropriate to each business and its services.

Built something exceptional? Let’s talk.

If you’ve built a respected business in HVAC, refrigeration or specialist mechanical maintenance, we’d welcome a conversation.

Whether you’re actively considering a sale or simply exploring what the future might look like, we’re always interested in getting to know exceptional operators.
